The Marriage entry for "Bartholomew Maginnis & Mary Murphy" on 29 Nov 1828 from Newry Cathedral records-a composite of the full page for clarity. Bartholomew's home was in Levelamore townland (1821 census), which later came within Lislea Parish. But in 1828 there was no local RC chapel/church to Levelamore. Bessbrook (Killeavy Lower) Parish records, which include Lislea, did not start until 1835. Mullaghban/Forkhill Parish records started in 1845. Today's Lislea chapel was consecrated in 1869 and there are some entries for Lislea (including Levelamore parishioners) from 1867 onward. From 1835 Baptisms/Marriages in surrounding chapels (such as in Lislea, Lissumon) were centrally recorded in Bessbrook Parish records until the local chapels came into being. © Copyright the National Library of Ireland - http://registers.nli.ie/ Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI. [[Local historian Eugene McCann of Ballykeel confirmed this marriage entry relates to Bartholomew McGinnis of Levelamore-inspected copy in 2023.]]
[[Witnesses-Ellen Loughran & Margaret McKey are not names local to Bartholomew's home in Levelamore ("McCoy" is local). Mary's entry "Mary Murphy, Newry" usually identifies the bride's townland or residence. Was Mary from Killevy area and thus close to Newry? There is also some consideration that the McGinnis's in Levelamore are possibly from the Killevy area (Eugene McCann of Ballykeel, local historian).]]

The Marriage entry for "Bartholomew Maginnis & Mary Murphy" on 29 Nov 1828 from Newry Cathedral records - a composite of the full page for clarity. Witnesses are: "Ellen Loughran" and "Margaret McKey". Bartholomew's home was in Levelamore townland (1821 census), which later came within Lislea Parish. Since few were literate at this time the names recorded in a Parish were "as heard; in this case by the Newry recorder. So for this Marriage entry; "McKey may have been "McCoy". Was Mary Murphy a Newry parishioner (eg Killeavy) and marrying in the bride's church? Remembering that prior to Bessbrook Parish a Parish Priest covered large areas such as Levelamore/Lislea alone, since assistance from Priests/Curates was not permitted. We also know that neighbours named "Murphy" were neighbours to Bart. Maginnis (McCreish) - 1821 Census (of Forkhill). © Copyright the National Library of Ireland - http://registers.nli.ie/ Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI.
