Hugh Mackin & Margaret Burns Marriage in 1874 in Cullyhanna RC parish, Co Armagh. Hugh is a "Servant"-most likely a hired Farm Servant. His father is Owen Mackin, a Labourer (thus not a Tenant or Farmer). Margaret is also from Ummeracam, her father Paddy Burns is a Farmer. Witnesses are Michael Mackin & Eleanor McCourt. The Cullyhanna parish entry incorrectly records date of marriage as 30 Dec-should be 03 Dec 1874 as recorded by the Registrar in Crossmaglen (01 Jan 1875) and certified by the Registrar Superintendent on 25 Jan187.. (3rd Dec was a Thursday, 30th was Wednesday. Parish marriage entries occurred on various days of the week). © Crown copyright- https://geni.nidirect.gov.uk/)

  • Notes
    • In 1891 Margaret is "Present" and registered the death of Owen Mackin, father of her husband Hugh Mackin. The 1911 census shows Margaret is aged 64 - thus born about 1847. Census also records seven children born and 5 still alive.
The 1901 census in Ummeracam Ball North, records that Hugh Mackin is aged 56, his wife "Mary" Mackin (Burns) is aged 53. Their daughter "Mary Anne" aged 20 is "Unmarried". However Mary Anne (aged 23) is married with a daughter and recorded in the 1901 census in Ayrshire, Scotland with husband William and daughter Rose Hardy.
"Possibly had a sister married to ? Grimes; had 2 daughters, nuns, and a son. Died 23/8/1926, buried Cullyhanna RC church". (Author unknown, entry in Byrnes red family history book).
