"Med Exp Force,
On the Hill
9th Aug 1915
Dear Mrs Byrne,
I am very sorry to have to tell you of the death of your husband Patrick yesterday.
He was seriously wounded and I had time to give him all the Last Sacraments before he died. He asked me to write to you & tell you to take care of your child.
I buried him by the sea in Suvla Bay in the Gallipoli peninsula.
I enclose papers found on him.
Please believe how sorry I am that this blow sh’ld. fall on you & many other from the fighting yesterday in wh(ich) the Dublins & Irish Rifles & Iniskillings suffered heavily.
Yours truly
Ed B Mostyn C.J."
