Picture Note: Margaret McGee/Magee - birth in Aghadanove townland - 6 May 1875. Her mother was formerly Catherine Farmer from the adjoining farm. Margaret's father is Michael Magee/McGee of "Aghadanove" townland.
Picture Note: Now there were no McGee households/tenants in "Aghadanove" townland between 1864 and 1929 (Griffiths Land Valuations Revisions 1865-1929). Margaret McGee's home was 2 fields above Aghadanove and in Slieve Gullion townland (1864 Griffiths Land Valuations Maps). The misunderstanding must have occured in the 1800's from the inabilty of many rural tenants to read or to write. Later McGee records corrected this and their home was recorded in Slieve Gullion townland.
Picture Note: Note: Margaret was baptised six days before her Registered Birth. In Mullaghban RC chapel on 30 April. © https://www.irishgenealogy.ie - Civil Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths & Church Records.

  • Notes
    • (Daisy and Peggy = Margaret. It seems like there should be a long explanation for Daisy, but it's as simple as this: the French word for "daisy" is "marguerite." As for Peggy? Well, Margaret was shortened to nicknames like Meg or Meggy, and the rhyming nickname trend turned Meggy into Peggy.)
