Mary Hannaway & Peter Murphy: marriage 1867 January 22. Extract from Mullaghban RC parish records - which is the bride's parish. "Adenove" (Aughdanove townland) is the bride's residence, though to be precise it's a few fields higher on Slieve Gullion and into Slieve Gullion townland-which is in the adjoining Parish of Drumintee, not Mullaghban Parish. Peter Murphy is from Ballard townland. The Parish entry is spelt "Hanoway" and was transcribed & recorded as "Hanoway" on some online records. Witnesses ("W") are "Owen Murphy" and "Bridg't McGinniss". © Copyright the National Library of Ireland - http://registers.nli.ie/ Catholic Parish Registers at the NLI.

  • Notes
    • Mary Hannaway from Aughadanove/Slieve Gullion married Peter Murphy and lived in the Murphy house on the Ballard Road, Ballard. Although she became Mary Murphy the house is still known as "Mary Hannaway's". "I roofed the house 60 years ago"-audio in 1989 of Peter Hannaway (1909-1993) about his great-aunt.
"Marriage of Mary Hannaway & Peter Murphy; 6 sisters (daughters) all to the USA early " (audio recording of Eugene McCann in 2016).
In 1889 Patrick was born to Mary Hannaway - this is about 22 years after the first of her nine children. However Mary was married at the age of about 16 or 17 and would then have been in her late-30s.
"Mary Hannaway’s" house & land was bought by Hughie Bennett in the 1960’s from Johnny McAffrey living in Birkenhead (thanks to Tommy O’Brien, Ballard resident: audio recording in 2010). See photo of remains of the house today.
